The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and “Click it or Ticket” crackdowns took place between the holiday time frame. The period was designated by the Illinois Department of Transportation, who determined the period based on the increased number of injuries and vehicle crashes that take place.
Idle also added that an increased risk of danger was evident, due to the nicer weather and increased number of cars on the streets.
Galesburg Police joined with Law Enforcement agencies around the state in an effort to remove violators from the roadways during the campaign.
Extra emphasis was reportedly given to late night hours as well, when violation rates are the highest.
The amped up enforcement was funded by a grant from IDOT, which financed overtime for officers. Idle said the addition of one to two officers were on patrol for the time period.
