Illinois To Name Stretch of Highway After Late Army Ranger

WILDWOOD, Ill. (AP) — A stretch of highway will be named after an Army Ranger from northern Illinois who was killed in Afghanistan five years ago.

Specialist Joseph Dimrock of Wildwood died in an explosion in Salerno, Afghanistan at the age of 21.

On Friday the Illinois Department of Transportation will dedicate a portion of Illinois Route 120 north of Chicago as “Army SPC Joseph `Joey’ W. Dimock II Memorial Highway.” Friday also will mark the fifth anniversary of his death.

State Rep. Sam Yingling and state Sen. Melinda Bush, both of Grayslake, sponsored the resolution to rename the highway.
Yingling says Dimrock is a “local hero.”

Lt. Col. Mike Foster was Dimock’s commanding officer. He says Dimrock “represented everything right with America.”
