URBANA, Ill. (AP) — Bond has been raised to $400,000 and new charges filed against a Champaign police officer charged with sexually assaulting two former girlfriends.
Jerad Gale was selected as last year’s officer of the year. On Monday he was arraigned on more sexual assault counts and his $250,000 bond raised by $150,000 to $400,000. The 31-year-old has been charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault, criminal sexual assault and aggravated domestic battery in Champaign County and criminal sexual assault in neighboring Piatt County.
Gale appeared with his attorney Tom Bruno of Urbana. He waived a probable cause hearing and pleaded not guilty. He is next due in court Sept. 1.
The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports he would have to post $40,000 to be released in the Champaign County cases.
