GLoBar Smoothies to Open August 1st, Despite Setback

GloBarA new smoothie shop is still expected to move in on E. Main Street next month, despite disagreement with the City of Galesburg.

GLoBar Juice and Smoothies will open it’s doors August 1st thanks to a compromise between the two parties.

That’s according to owner Megan Robbins, who says the business received a Business Innovation Grant from the city.

The money will be used to help pay for a necessary grease trap installation. Robbins tells WGIL, that the compromise was made in regard to the size of that trap.

“It’s $3,000, so it should cover the cost of the grease trap and the installation,” says Robbins. “It’s going to be 30 gallons. The city ordinance normally states that we would have a 1,000 gallon grease trap in every restaurant. They came down at first to 60 gallons and then ended up around 30.”

Robbins says she expects to save quite a bit of money. She anticipates the 1,000 gallon trap would have cost an estimated $12,000.

Robbins adds that the compromise was great for both local business and the community. She says she met with other business owners and city officials and discussed ways to better communicate. GLoBar will likely hold a joint opening with Rivet Boutique next month.
