A rally was held last night at the Boys and Girls Club of Knox County, where local community members spoke out about how proposed budget cuts could affect them.
The stories ranged from people with disabilities who wouldn’t be receiving DORS help to families who cannot afford childcare and have to choose between work or their children.
The rally gathered community members and stressed the importance of reaching out to State Representatives Norine Hammond and Don Moffitt as well as Governor Bruce Rauner.
Rally Coordinator Leslie Moore tells WGIL that its important for those Representatives to stand up to Governor Bruce Rauner and protect these services.
“It’s depressing and it’s devastating to tell someone that you know they might not make this, but we’re still fighting,” says Moore. “We need Don Moffitt and Norine Hammond to stand up and support our community and fund a budget that’s not going to be as drastic to our services as what our Governor is proposing.”
Today the Illinois Senate passed a temporary budget that would support these essential services, which awaits approval by Rauner.
