The 15th Annual Great Balloon Race is taking flight this weekend at Lake Storey, with various free festivities for families to enjoy.17 Hot Air Balloons will take flight, with some pilots traveling across the country to compete in the competition.
Coordinator Greg Saul tells Galesburg Live on WGIL that in addition to balloons, there will be kites flown, face painting and crafts.
“Friday night is the night glow and the flight. Saturday morning we have a flight,” says Saul. “Saturday afternoon we have a motorcycle show out at the lake, its actually 1 to 5 [p.m.] and the kite gentleman will be out there then. We have people coming out Friday night and Saturday night to do crafts for the kids from the Galesburg Civic Arts Center. We have a face painter coming out Saturday night.”
The festivities have already begun, with crafts already set up for families to enjoy and the first balloon launch will be at 6 p.m. tonight.
Tomorrow there will also be a motorcycle show from 1 to 4 p.m. and balloon launches at 6 in the morning and at night, followed by a final launch on Sunday at 6 a.m.
