Illinois State Fair to Host Activities for Senior Citizens

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Senior citizens will have their own day at the Illinois State Fair this year.

The Illinois Department on Aging says it will host activities for seniors throughout the fair, but Monday, Aug. 17 is Senior Day. That’s when attendees age 60 and older are admitted to the fair for free.

The department will have the Illinois Senior Spelling Bee State Finals, the annual Grandparent Grandchild Contest and the “Not So Newlywed Game.”

The Illinois State Fair runs from Aug. 13 to 23 in Springfield.

State agencies, organizations and private companies also will be available to offer information about services to help older adults. Those include AARP, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois and the U.S. Social Security Administration.
