DES PLAINES, Ill. (AP) — A 60-year-old man suburban Chicago is being held on $5 million bail after being charged with kidnapping and sexually assaulting woman in an apartment she’d agreed to rent from him.
Police in Des Plaines say that a 43-year-old woman said she answered a Craigslist ad placed by 60-year-old Farhad Tanzif, met him Wednesday to look at the apartment and agreed to rent it. Police say when the woman returned with some personal items, Tanzif allegedly threatened her with a knife and sexually assaulted her.
Police say the woman filed the report on Wednesday and was taken to a hospital for treatment. They say they searched Tanzif’s residence on Thursday.
Tanzif’s next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 11.
