SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) –The iconic Illinois State Fair butter cow is taking shape.
State Fair officials and New York sculptor Sharon BuMann unveiled an incomplete 2015 butter cow on Thursday. It’s expected to be finished early next week.
A butter cow has been a staple at the Illinois State Fair for more than 90 years.
The butter cow is featured in a different setting every year, and this year’s sculpture will include a grandfather showing his granddaughter a farm. BuMann says she gets her inspiration from her family farm.
BuMann says she’s retiring from the butter cow-sculpting business after this year and plans to write a book about her adventures in butter art.
