SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) –Students at the Illinois State Fair this weekend will showcase their knowledge of automotive technology.
A group from William Fremd High School in Palatine will take apart a small block Chevy engine down to the block and crank. Then they will reassemble it following industry standard procedures and torque specifications.
The students learned from a winner. Their teacher is Steve Elza, the 2015 Illinois Teacher of the Year.
Gov. Bruce Rauner says automotive technology can be “a stepping stone into a good paying job in a very technical field, or it can ignite a hobby that becomes a life-long passion.”
Elza and his students will be in the Governor’s Tent at the fair on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
