Two residents were in the home at the time of the fire, Owner Barbara West and her granddaughter.
West told WGIL that she smelled smoke and went to see where it was coming from when she saw the fire as it started spreading up the wall. West says she left the house with her granddaughter and called 9-1-1 from her neighbor’s house.
The house sustained severe internal smoke damage and blown out windows and West said it seemed like more than half of her belongings would be unsalvageable.
Neither West or her granddaughter were injured and were allowed to briefly walk through the home with firefighters.
No further information is available at this time as Galesburg Fire Department continues to investigate the cause.
