CHICAGO (AP) –Jurors in Chicago are expected to begin deliberating soon on the market value of Michael Jordan’s name.
Closing arguments are Friday morning in a federal civil trial focused on how much a grocery-store chain should pay the six-time NBA champion for invoking his name in a 2009 steak ad without permission.
Deliberations start after closings. A judge already found the now-defunct Dominick’s Finer Foods liable. The only unresolved issue is appropriate damages for the ex-Chicago Bulls star.
Jordan testified during the trial. He told jurors his image was something he values, in his words, “very preciously.” The 52-year-old also joked about needing eyeglasses to read documents on the witness stand.
Jordan’s lawyers say the use of his name is worth at least $10 million. Dominick’s says that’s way too high.
