Luxury Buildings Change Housing At University of Illinois

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) –Luxury housing built over the past 14 years at the University of Illinois has changed the way students live on campus.

Gone are the days of sharing bedrooms and bathrooms or living in dorms without air conditioning and elevators. Several complexes now provide students with parking, a pool, a sand volleyball court and large balconies that wrap all the way around the building.

The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports that the first modern luxury building was completed in 2001, offering University of Illinois students their own bathrooms and a fitness center.

Since then, five other buildings offering students luxury housing also have helped bring a dramatic change to the market on campus.
