Galesburg Youth Athletic Club Raises Funds for Cameron Residents

GYACLast weekend, the Galesburg Youth Athletic Club held a fundraiser at Sandy Oaks Campground in Keithsburg to raise funds for Cameron residents affected by the EF-2 Tornado in July.President Carlos Duncan says they have raised just over $7,000 so far, but are planning a second fundraiser for tomorrow.

Board member Mary Hepner tells WGIL that they want to help individuals in need, such as a man who needs money for a new roof and a woman in need of a fence for her horses.

“There are people, Betty Davis, she’s part of the Galesburg Boots and Saddle club, she lost some fencing due to that. We want to put that back together so she can bring her horses home,” says Hepner. “There’s a gentleman who needs a roof, he does have a roofer who will do it for free if the supplies are bought. So yes, I would like to target as many as we can with this money and give it to them directly so that they can be able to be helped.”

Duncan says they will be combining the proceeds from both weekends before distributing them to Cameron residents.

Hepner says roughly 200 people showed up for the event last Saturday, that included auctions, trail rides, and live entertainment.

Hepner says tomorrow’s events will start at 10 a.m. at Woodland View Farm in Knoxville, with more auctions and trail rides for participants to enjoy.
