Police Suspect Drag Racing Led to Crash that Killed Parents

ROBBINS, Ill. (AP) – Police in a Chicago suburb believe the drivers of two cars were drag racing when they crashed into a minivan, killing a couple and injuring their three children.
Witnesses told police in Robbins that two speeding cars blew through a stop sign and crashed into the minivan that was carrying the family on Thursday night.

WLS-TV reports that 43-year-old Cherise Davis-Jones and her husband, 59-year-old Less Jones, were killed.

Their children, ages 4, 7 and 8, were hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Four people in the other two cars were also injured. One of the drivers is in police custody.

Robbins Police Chief Mitchell Davis called the crash “100 percent preventable.”
