University of Chicago Under Boil Order

CHICAGO (AP) – Most of the University of Chicago is under a boil order after a contractor failed to properly flush out a new water main.
The order is in effect until Sunday and includes the University of Chicago Medical Center and most of the university’s buildings and residence halls.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports  that bottled water is being delivered to all patient care units at the hospital.

A memo to hospital staff says all food will be prepared with bottled or boiled water.

Staff are being told to use sanitizer after washing their hands, and special instructions are being given to surgical teams.

Water Department spokesman Pete Scales says crews flushed the water main Saturday and put it back in service, but the boil order was issued as a precaution.
