On Sunday, State Representative Don Moffitt Announced he will not be seeking re-election after 12 terms and 23 years.
Moffitt says he has always been interested in government and the political process ever since Junior High.
Moffitt tells Galesburg’s Morning News on WGIL that he ran to be city council member at age 23 to make government more efficient and responsive to the community.
“I ran for the city council and was elected, and then served three terms as Mayor,” says Moffitt. “My desire to get into the government–I felt in general that the government was too wasteful and not responsive
Moffitt served as Mayor, then a Knoxville City Council member, then a Knox County Board Member and Knox County Treasurer before being elected as a Illinois House Representative.
Moffitt first ran for the House in 1992 and will finish out his current term for the next 16 months.
