Orton “Heart and Soul” Initiative Focused on Reaching New Voices

Galesburg-city-signThe Galesburg City Council recently passed a community building initiative through the Vermont-based Orton Family Foundation.

The foundation’s “heart and soul” initiative is what will be coming to Galesburg.

The plan was done in correlation with the Galesburg Community Foundation.

Executive Director of GCF Josh Gibb says it’s important for people to know what the program will do on a local level.

Gibb tells Galesburg Live on WGIL, that the process is really Galesburg tailored.

“It isn’t Orton actually coming to Galesburg and being a consultant, this is them coaching and training and facilitating us to be involved in the planning to make the process our own so that the people of Galesburg own it,” says Gibb. “This is Galesburg coming up with the ideas, formulating its own plan and implementing its own plan. It’s really focusing on everyone–reaching people that might not of ever had the chance to be a part of a process like this before.”

City Manager Todd Thompson has said the city will pay approximately $25,000 over a two-year agreement on the deal.
