Aldermen to Discuss Budget and Capital Improvement Program Tonight

galesburgA discussion over the City of Galesburg’s budget that is expected to continue over the coming weeks will take place again tonight.

City council will meet in a work session to go over the FY16 spending plan. City Manager Todd Thompson said at a work session earlier this month that the anticipated deficit is approximately $1 Million. Thompson added that much of the cost is expected to be wrapped up in personnel costs.

The lack of state budget is having an impact on local city governments as well.

Meanwhile, Aldermen will dive into the city’s capital improvement plan once again this evening. A city-wide utility tax passed earlier this year which will help combat roughly $2.45 Million in deferred maintenance of infrastructure.

Various aldermen and city administration have stressed the need for street and sewer repair as a part of that program in past work sessions, while others are leaning on bridges and additional landscaping as priorities.

Council meets tonight at 5:30 p.m. to discuss these issues, as well as a staffing analysis. The work session will be held in the Erickson Conference room.
