Galesburg Man Arrested for Cocaine Possession

galesburgpolicelogoA Galesburg man was arrested early this morning after police found cocaine in his possession.

48-year-old Eric “Vert” Mcgee has been charged with possession of a controlled substance under 15 grams which is a Class 4 Felony. Mcgee has also been charged with driving without a license.

At approximately 1 a.m. this morning, authorities conducted a traffic stop near the corner of South Academy and West South Street.

Mcgee was pulled over with two passengers in the car. Both passengers were found holding cups, one of which contained alcohol. Following a search, both of the individuals were released from the scene.

Officers searched Mcgee and found a small baggy of a ” white substance,” which authorities field tested and confirmed as cocaine. A little less than a gram was found in Mcgee’s possession.

The Galesburg man is currently being held in Knox County Jail. Mcgee appeared in Knox County Circuit Court this afternoon, where bail was set at a rate of $7,500. If convicted, he could face up to three years in prison.

Mcgee is scheduled to re-appear in court Wednesday at 11 a.m.
