Knox County Republican Party Chairman Wayne Saline is one of 10 chairman who sits on the selection committee who will pick the successor for the 37th Senate District.

Although he did would not name names, Saline says that 10 applicants applied for the position with individuals ranging from Mercer, Peoria, and Henry Counties.

The head of the Knox County GOP says the committee will have a conference call today and will narrow the field down to four candidates before Sunday.

Saline tells WGIL, that the committee is looking for a well rounded candidate.

“Mainly it’s looking at experience, involvement, ability to maintain the seat, fundraising, being able to work with other people in Springfield–those are the  general qualities we are looking for,” says Saline. “We want somebody with a strong personality who can go to Springfield and maintain their place down there–not be able to get walked over by individuals who have been there that have seniority. Everybody that is there should be treated the same.”

Saline added that there are reportedly multiple candidates from Peoria county and none from Knox.
