Knox County Sheriff: “Police Lives Matter” Signs, A Symbol of Thanks

Police Lives MatterThe Knox County Sheriff has recently been circulating signs with the saying “Police Lives Matter.”

Sheriff Dave Clague says those signs, created by him, are meant as a token of appreciation for his staff of Law Enforcement officials.

Clague says he created the signs as a symbol of awareness to ask communities to sit down and show authorities that they “are not alone.”

The Sheriff tells WGIL that the signs are intended to show that police lives are important.

“Police lives are very important,” says Clague. “I hope I never have to deliver a message to a deputy’s family saying that he or she was killed in the line of duty. There needs to be some good things brought up on the news media.”

Clague says his signs were intended to support authorities, and not to disrespect any race or creed.

“Black lives do matter, Hispanic lives do matter, and I think that that is the message that needs to get out within every community within this country. I don’t think that it should be used as a tool to offend anybody. My primary goal was to create a dialogue to gain the respect of everybody within the community.”

Clague says approximately 20 citizens picked up signs yesterday. He says he hopes to see signs placed in multiple towns, and area counties.
