Scenic Drive Showcases Rural Knox County This Weekend

scenic driveRural heritage will be the theme this weekend and next, as the annual Scenic Drive opens up to celebrate the small town features of Knox County.

The drive is a self-guided car tour through a number of small towns and rural locations.

Multiple locations will be highlighted on the drive. Downtown Knoxville and the Wolf Covered Bridge near Gilson will show off their history, alongside the Orange Chapel at the United Methodist Church in Orange Township. Events will also be going on at the Knox County Fairgrounds, Walnut Grove Farm, the Hawthorne Centre, and in Maquon.

Various activities will take place at each location.

Jan King, Owner of Walnut Grove Farm, tells Galesburg Live on WGIL, that their farm will have a new attraction this year.

“We are hosting what we are calling scenic drive unplugged, which is a story telling and music festival,” says King. “We’ve always had music, but we are going to have sort of non-stop entertainment, along with our art and businesses that are all local.”

Produce selections in Maquon, antique tractor displays at the fairgrounds, and homemade chicken & noodles at the chapel are just a few other attractions and delicacies that will be made available.

Events take place tomorrow through Sunday, and October 10th through the 11th.
