CHICAGO (AP) — The death of an 8-year-old girl on Chicago’s South Side is being investigated by the Department of Children and Family Services and the city’s police department.
Authorities say officers responding to a 911 call on Wednesday found Cherish Foster in a home in Chicago’s Princeton Park neighborhood. She was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The girl lived down the street from the house where she was found.
A spokesman for Children and Family Services said Thursday it is investigating the girl’s mother for allegations of abuse and neglect.
The department says two children have been placed with a family member while the investigation is underway.
The department noted it hasn’t had prior contact with the family. The medical examiner’s office didn’t release results from an autopsy conducted Thursday.
