CHICAGO (AP) — Jury selection is set to begin in the trial of a Chicago man accused in the 2007 killing of his ex-girlfriend, whose body was found covered in leaves in Calumet City.
Reginald Potts’ trial will start in Cook County court on Monday, eight years after 28-year-old Nailah (nah-EE’-lah) Franklin’s death. Her sister, Lehia Franklin Acox, said the delay has been a “very long, painful ordeal.” Prosecutors say he strangled her before her body was dumped in a wooded area.
Potts was charged with additional felonies while in custody for allegedly beating sheriff’s deputies and destroying property. He also planned to represent himself before agreeing to a team of public defenders.
Potts has denied killing Franklin and defense attorneys are expected to say the case against him is circumstantial.
