State to replace misspelled Collinsville street signs

COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — The Illinois Department of Transportation plans to replace several misspelled Collinsville street signs installed after a highway repair project.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports that signs for two streets near Illinois Route 159 are in error after the old signs were removed to widen the Madison County highway as it passes through downtown.

Several signs on Tillotson Avenue are instead spelled “Tilloston.” And a Cumberland Road sign is missing the letter `d’ in the street name.

Dennis Kress of the Collinsville street department says the new signs are on order. The Transportation Department is blaming the mistake on a contractor’s sign manufacturer.
