This past weekend, the family of a late Galesburg businessman donated a hefty chunk of change to local groups in the area.
In Larry Miller’s name, family members donated $175,000 to various groups he had affiliation with, such as the Costa Catholic School Foundation, OSF St. Mary Medical Center, the Orpheum Theatre, and the Rotary Foundation.
The donations were made Saturday in a ceremony at the Orpheum Theatre.
Miller was the owner of the Miller, Dredge Insurance Agency, which he laid the groundwork for back in 1979.
Brenda Miller, who is Larry’s Widow, tells WGIL this weekend’s donation was a part of her husband’s will.
“He had designated beneficiaries in Galesburg,” Brenda says. “We gave donations for those organizations and it was $25,000 for Costa, for the OSF St. Mary’s and for the Orpheum and then $100,000 for the Rotary Foundation.”
Miller says her husband was heavily involved in each organization. Larry graduated from Costa and sent his children to the school, served as chairman of the area-wide board at OSF, was a fundraising leader for the Orpheum and was an active Rotary member.
He passed away at the age of 67 this past May.
