The Salveo Health and Wellness Center in Canton opened this past Monday as one of the first medical marijuana dispensaries in Illinois history.
More than 200 patients hailing from Galesburg, Springfield, the Quad Cities, Peoria and other surrounding areas have already made their way to the Fulton County town to legally purchase the drug.
That’s according to Salveo CEO Scott Miller who says the opening has been emotional for some.
“It’s two years in the making for a lot of them,” Miller says. “It really was a pretty burdensome process for these folks to go through. It’s just kind of a combination of relief that it’s finally here and excitement. So we had some clapping and cheering the first couple days and as our first patients came out, there was a lot of excitement there.”
The facility sells medical cannabis for 38 different conditions ranging from multiple sclerosis, to cancer and spinal cord diseases. Each condition is approved by the state to be treated with the drug.
In order to purchase, patients must present their medical card, an ID card and a designation for the specific dispensary. Salveo Health and Wellness is one of eight dispensaries now open throughout Illinois.
