Downed trees, hanging power lines and ruined buildings. Last night’s intense weather left its mark on Knox and surrounding counties.
Galesburg Fire Chief Tom Simkins says he received reports that a rural Knoxville barn had collapsed onto the highway at Routes 8 and 27, the Harvest Church in East Galesburg lost part of its roof, at least three transformers had blown and emergency crews working with the city’s street department barricaded at least a dozen street in Galesburg to deal with downed lines.
Simkins adds that no injuries were reported. The weather hit Knox County at 6:30 p.m. last night and left the area around 7:25 p.m.
The National Weather Service reports numerous trees down in Galesburg and a semi-trailer blown over on Interstate 74 at mile marker 49.
Numerous power outages were reported throughout the area in nearly every surrounding county.
Updated reports from Ameren say only one percent of Warren County is still without power now. In Knox County much of the power has also been restored, with only about 300 left in the dark.
