Celebrating their 30th year, Grohmann’s Christmas Tree Farm to many families is more than a farm, it’s a place where holiday memories are born.
Families from the area and some as traveling from as far as Chicago come to rural Gilson to take home their annual tannenbaum.
When you come to the 30 acre farm, Grohmann’s provides the saw for you to chop down your own tree.
They also provide a hayrack ride and assistance with tying the tree to the car.
While in her house tying bows for wreaths, owner Tina Grohmann recalls to WGIL one of her favorite customer memories.
“One time we had this guy that came out and got a 15 foot tree and he had a station wagon like the Griswold’s family Christmas,” she says, laughing. “It was so funny to watching him put that tree up on there.”
The farm is open now through Christmas, but there’s year round work that needs to be done to maintain the property.
Grohmann says she gets lots of help from family and friends, one of whom was helping her tie bows while we spoke to her.
Not only do they help in maintaining the forestry but the menagerie of animals, including a pair of alpacas.
She says that although there are a few less customers than there used to be, hundreds still show up every year.
Although artificials might have an edge in convenience, Grohmann says the best reason to cut down a real tree is the quality memories that will last beyond the holidays.
