A Galesburg man appeared today in Knox County Circuit Court on a newly filed armed violence charge following his arrest Friday for fighting outside a downtown bar.
Chief Public Defender Dave Hansen accompanied his client, 29-year-old Jonathon W. Ostrander while Judge Thomas Ewing read the defendant’s charges.
Ostrander faces one count of armed violence, a Class X felony worth up to 30 years in prison, as well as aggravated battery, resisting a peace officer and aggravated assault.
According to court documents, the armed violence charge stems from a Friday night bar fight involving a knife outside the Silver Front tavern.
Ostrander is accused of wielding a hunting knife when he punched another combatant in the face, breaking the man’s glasses.
Police reports indicate an “extremely intoxicated” Ostrander refused to walk with officers to a squad car, leading to the resisting charge.
He remains in the Knox County jail on $100,000 bond. Ostrander’s next court date is set for 2 p.m. Dec. 15.
He also faces pending charges of unlawful possession of cannabis, burglary and other charges.
