Police confiscate more than 100 grams of pot, arrest two

galesburgpolicelogoGalesburg police responded Tuesday morning to the Broadview Inn and Suites after receiving complaints of a strong marijuana smell coming from a rented room.

According to police reports, officers spoke with Broadview employees who said a high volume of traffic was coming in and out of a room where 22-year-old Desera Mack of Texas was staying.

Also identified in connection with Mack was 31-year-old Galesburg man, George Johnson Jr.

Police knocked on the door of the room where a strong cannabis smell was coming from and were greeted by Mack, who had a valid failure to appear warrant in an earlier pot case from July.

Officers were given consent to search the room, where more than 98 grams of pot were found in addition to a plastic bag with another 13 grams.

Johnson told police the smaller bag and several cannabis pipes belonged to him.

Mack was taken to the Knox County jail on charges of possession and manufacturing between 30 and 500 grams of cannabis. Johnson was given a notice to appear in court for lesser pot charges and released.

Mack’s $1,000 bail was posted by Johnson yesterday. Mack’s bond had been set at $10,000.
