Volunteers helping build home for tornado victims

OREGON, Ill. (AP) — Volunteers are helping rebuild the lives of a Fairdale family who lost everything in an April tornado.
Operation Rebuild is a volunteer disaster-relief organization building a new home on land purchased by Rick and Dawn Geist.

The Dixon Telegraph reports that Deb Wooldridge of Polo is project coordinator. She says the Geists “lived through a nightmare. We’re trying to build them a dream.”

An April 9 tornado destroyed the Geists’ two-story home, two outbuildings, 65 trees and all their belongings.

The Geists used their insurance money to buy land and have lived in a mobile home since July.

Operation Rebuild stepped in to help in October. The group is still seeking volunteer carpenters, electricians and others.
