BARTONVILLE, Ill. (AP) — Two people have died in a head-on crash near Peoria.
Authorities responded to the scene at about 4:40 p.m. Monday after a vehicle traveling eastbound on U.S. Route 24 in Bartonville went across the westbound lanes, up an embankment and then across the westbound lanes again before colliding with another vehicle.
Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. The (Peoria) Journal Star reports that the victim’s identities weren’t available Monday night.
A portion of the highway was closed as the Illinois State Police investigated the crash.
