Police arrested a Galesburg man today after reports led officers to the site of a meth cook.
According to the Galesburg Police Department, 26-year-old Ricky D. Niswonger was found around 2 a.m. today at a residence in the 500 block of Michigan Avenue. As officers approached the residence, a chemical odor consistent with the production of methamphetamine could be smelled.
Due to the presence two children, ages 11 and 13, inside the apartment, officers conducted a “protective sweep” of the home.
Niswonger was found inside a closed bedroom. Upon searching the room, officers found a rifle with a filed down serial number underneath a mattress.
Further search revealed a “one-pot” meth lab inside the home.
Niswonger was charged with aggravated meth production, meth-related child endangerment, defacing firearm ID markings as well as other drug and gun charges.
He remains in the Knox County jail on $250,000 bond.
