Hamann, Henry A.

Mr. Henry A. “Hank” Hamann, 86, of Galesburg, died at 7:27 p.m. Friday December 11, 2015.He was born March 14, 1929 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of Waldemar F. and Irene (Kolberg) Hamann. He married Donna M. Walrath on May 28, 1955 in Laona, Wisconsin.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Donna; four sons, Steve Hamann of Chicago, Darrell (and Patti) Hamann of North Andover, Massachusetts, David (and Diane) Hamann of Columbus, Ohio, and Peter (and Carla) Hamann of Fayetteville, North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Jeffery, Katie, Joshua, Lorayna, Samantha, Alexandra, and Leah; and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Edward.

Hank graduated from Athens High School in Athens, Wisconsin, the University of Wisconsin, and earned his doctorate degree in 1972 from Walden University. He worked in education for 41 years in administration. He retired as secretary of the Board of Education for public schools in Kansas City, Missouri. He moved to Galesburg in 1989 and was principal at Gale Elementary School and retired a second time as principal of Lombard Middle School. Following his retirement from education, Hank was a real estate agent from 1994 until retiring a third time in May of 2015. Hank was a member and active board member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Noon Lions Club for 15 years.

He served in the United States Army in military intelligence from 1951 to 1953 and was stationed in Germany.

Visitation will be 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. at the church with Rev. Len Hoffmann officiating.   Cremation will be accorded following the funeral with burial in the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, Wisconsin.
