Springfield daycare worker guilty in boy’s death

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — A Springfield woman faces up to five years in prison after being convicted of manslaughter in the death of an 11-month-old boy.

According to The State Journal-Register, 68-year-old Cammie Kelly was convicted Wednesday and will be sentenced Feb. 5.

Jurors deliberated for parts of two days before deciding on the involuntary manslaughter conviction. Kelly had been charged with murder in the January 2011 death of Kaiden M. Gullidge of Rochester.

State’s Attorney John Milhiser said he respected the jury’s decision. Members of the boy’s family declined comment.

Kelly told investigators that the boy was sitting on the floor of the apartment where she lived and ran the daycare when he fell and hit his head. He died two days later.
