Kohl’s development revamped

Galesburg-city-signThough plans have been altered from the original design, the City of Galesburg could be getting a Kohl’s department store after all.

City Council documents indicate Kohl’s has asked the city to consider an amended Economic Development Agreement to revamp plans for a location at the Seminary Square Shopping Center.

A letter from Kohl’s indicates plans to build a smaller 36,325 sq. foot facility. In 2011, the company had planned a 55,000 sq. foot building, however, due to various issues that stemmed through 2012, plans fell through.

Another change in the plans is that Kohl’s would now lease the property from a private developer as well.

Aldermen will vote on the proposed amendments at Monday’s meeting. City Manager Todd Thompson has recommended council approve the measure.
