Last night was the much anticipated release of the seventh installment in the Star Wars franchise.
Some Galesburg movie goers were lined up six hours in advance despite having bought tickets when presale began months ago.
Mark Stegall tells WGIL he bought his ticket when they went on sale.
“I’m kind of speechless with anticipation,” Stegall says. “I’m from back in the day 1977, so I’m an old Star Wars fan.”
Judging by the line in the theater lobby, Star Wars really does seem to bridge the generation gap.
Ahead of her viewing, Megan Robinson said she hoped that the new film would live up to the hype.
“I, of course, was like nine when the first one came out and then like 15 when the third one came out,” Robinson said.
Some were decked out in costumes including employees of the theater adding to the festivity of the experience. ‘
Stegall says that waiting in line was part of the excitement.
“It’s amazing with all of the problems we still have in this world today, that you get people in line and you still end up talking to strangers because you have something in common,” Stegall says.
The Force Awakens did well over $100 million in ticket pre-sales more than quadrupling the old record holder.
AMC Showplace 8 in Galesburg will have 13 screenings a day this weekend.
