Ruby Margaret Smith, 89, of Little York, IL passed away Friday December 25, 2015, 10:15 pm at the Monmouth Nursing Home Monmouth, IL. She was born May 10, 1926 in Knox County the daughter of Glenn and Amy (Richardson) Bloomfield. She was raised and educated in the Alpha area, where she graduated from Alpha High School and attended Brown’s Business College in Galesburg, IL.
Ruby married William “Bill” Edward Smith in Rio, IL on February 15, 1948, and he preceded her in death on May 8, 2000.
She enjoyed her life as a farmwife and mother, raising her children on the farm in the Little York community. Over 25 years as secretary at Yorkwood Elementary she impacted the lives of many children who were also dear to her. She loved her children and grandchildren, and valued her friendships. She enjoyed gardening and loved animals.
Ruby was a former member of the Little Cedar Presbyterian Church in Little York and currently a member of Heritage United Presbyterian Church. In earlier years she was a member of Little York Farmerettes and the American Legion Post 136 Auxiliary. After retiring she was an active volunteer at the Monmouth Hospital.
Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Bonnie (Dennis) Skripps of Macomb, IL, and Karen (Tammy) Lufkin of Galesburg, IL; one granddaughter, Kirsten (John) Warren of Galesburg, IL; three great grandchildren, Jude, Maddax and Vada Warren; five step-grandchildren and 7 step- great grandchildren along with nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, Kenneth and Larry, one step grandson, Caleb Lufkin, and two sisters Betty Richardson and Ruth Marie Burns.
Funeral services will be Wednesday December 30, 2015, 11:00 am at the Wise Family-Hoover Hall Funeral Home Monmouth, IL. Burial will be in the Little York Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday December 30, 2015 at the Wise Family-Hoover hall Funeral Home Monmouth, IL where her family will be present from 10:00-11:00 am.
