A couple that had been living in a North Pleasant Street garage appeared in Knox County Circuit Court today following their arrest yesterday on Class X meth production charges.

Judge Scott Shipplett told 18-year-old Brooke E. Zwicky and 25-year-old Derrick W. Jones they could face up to 60 years in prison for production of between 400 and 900 grams of meth in a structure that was equipped with a video surveillance system. Shipplett set both their bonds at $250,000.

Sabrina Stroops is a Knox County Assistant State’s Attorney. She told the court police responded yesterday to the garage after receiving reports of a chemical smell coming from North Pleasant Street.

Officers found 432 grams of meth in the garage and more than 25 used “one pot” meth labs.

After being taken into custody, Jones told officers he had been cooking meth there and Zwicky had helped him procure ingredients.

The couple remains in the Knox County jail awaiting first appearances with their public defenders at 11 a.m. Monday.
