Following his release from police custody Monday due to a miscommunication in the Knox County State’s Attorney’s Office, a Galesburg man appeared in court today on a series of drug charges.

Court documents show a $200,000 warrant was issued yesterday for 39-year-old Quennel T. Augusta, who faces charges of unlawful possession of one to 15 grams of cocaine with intent to deliver, obstructing justice and other lesser drug charges.

The obstruction charge was filed with the allegation that Augusta “put in his mouth a bag which contained smaller bags of crack cocaine” in an attempt to conceal evidence.

Assistant State’s Attorney Sabrina Stroops said Augusta had been released Monday because charges had not been filed at the time of his court appearance.

According to police reports, Augusta was arrested late last night on the warrant. He was in possession of 15 plastic baggies, all containing small amounts of cocaine, at the time of his arrest.

Stroops says additional drug charges have not been filed at this time, but may be forthcoming.
