Galesburg Silver Streaks Boys Basketball vs. United Township Panthers

Here is a recap of tonight’s game from WGIL’s Brad Bennewitz:

“In a game that featured only two lead changes, but went right down to the final shot, the Galesbug Boys Basketball team prevailed over United Township, 49-48. It was the 15th consecutive win for the Silver Streaks who are now 23-1 overall and 6-0 in the Western Big 6. United Township’s only lead was at 2-1. Galesburg eventually built a 10 point lead in the 4th quarter but the Panthers came back, largely behind Traveon Buchanan, who transferred from Chicago Simeon in the off season, who knocked down all 8 of his free throws in the 4th quarter, had 13 of his 28 in the 4th quarter, and the Panthers came all the way back to within 1.

“It came down to an Ethan Meeker free throw with 6 seconds left. Meeker missed the front end of the 1 and 1 which the Panthers rebounded. Into the front court came the Panthers but the Streaks defense did not give the Panthers the chance to really penetrate, to get off any kind of an open look or decent shot at the basket and Jacob Meeske’s sideways, lined-up shot from about 30 feet away from the basket really never had a chance. And Galesburg hangs on 49-48. They now have a two game lead over both Rock Island and Quincy in the Western Big 6, which both were winners last night.

“Silver Streaks sophomores won an intense game. They came right down to late in the 4th quarter, as coach Ryan Hart’s team prevailed 62-57. Galesburg boys will be back in action, wrapping up a full day of action at John Thiel Gym again tomorrow as the Streaks will take on Alton in the final game of the BSN Shoot-out. We will have the action at 7:06 pre-game, 7:30 tip off, if everything is running on time by the end of the day. 49-48 Galesburg wins over United Township.”

Our Dave’s Autobody Crunch Time Player of the Game was Jarret Olson who had 10 points in the game, 7 of which came in the 4th quarter. Of those 7, 3 came in a huge 3-pointer he hit in the 4th and the other 4 came from him sinking all of his free throws also in the 4th. Ethan Meeker also managed to break into double figures with 21 points in the game. As mentioned above you can catch the Streaks again tomorrow in the BSN Shoot-out with a pre-game time of 7:10 and tip off scheduled to go at 7:30 with live play by play from Brad Bennewitz and Jim Lee on 93.7FM and 1400AM WGIL, WGIL.com, or the TuneIn app.
