
Rev. William Pete David Carter, 75 of Manawa, Wisconsin and formerly of Abingdon, Illinois, passed away on February 6, 2016 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, Wisconsin. He was born November 12, 1940 in Biggers, Arkansas, the son of John William Hobert Carter and Nora Lee Pennington Carter. He married Phyllis E. Way on June 26, 1960 in Abingdon, Illinois.
Pete is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Phyllis; one daughter, Dawn Diane (Jim) Green of Manawa, Wisconsin; one son, Steven S. (Terrie) Carter of Hortonville, Wisconsin; six grandchildren, Jeffrey (Angi), Michael (Kim), Tiffany (fiance Kodiak), Trevor, Taylor and Torin; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eleanor Landon of Abingdon, Illinois and Nellie “Gay” Johnson of Wataga, Illinois; one brother-in-law, Donnie (Norma) Way of Florida; and several nieces and nephews, cousins and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Hobert Carter and George Carter.
Pete graduated from Abingdon High School in 1958. He served in the Air Force for 7 1/2 years. Pete was employed by Outboard Marine Corporation (OMC) as an Electrical Engineer for 30 years. During his tenure with OMC, he invented a method of burn-in testing of circuitry which has been registered as United States Patent. He worked at multiple OMC locations throughout his career including Galesburg, Illinois, Manawa, Wisconsin and retired from the Juarez, Mexico division.
He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy and was ordained as a minister in 1974. He served as the pastor of churches in Galesburg, Illinois, Milwaukee, Wisconsin and later in El Paso, Texas.
Pete always treasured his family. They meant the world to him. He would do anything to help his family and friends. One of his favorite past times was spontaneous family game nights. He was passionate about playing marbles. Pete was the champion of the last six games he played, but even in a loss he had a smile of enjoyment on his face.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel in Abingdon, Illinois. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Luther Rye of Haleyville, Alabama will officiate. Burial with military rites will follow in the Abingdon Cemetery.
