ROSELLE, Ill. (AP) — Authorities say the owner of a pizzeria in suburban Chicago has died from injuries suffered when a van crashed into the restaurant.
The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports that authorities say 53-year-old Custodio Acuna was inside Acuna Pizza in Roselle when the cargo van crashed through the entrance around 3 p.m. Wednesday.
According to the Cook County medical examiner’s office, Acuna was pronounced dead at a hospital at 5:40 p.m. Wednesday. His death was ruled an accident.
Roselle Deputy Police Chief Roman Tarchala says police are investigating a possible “medical emergency” that may have led the 40-year-old driver to veer the van off the road. As of Thursday, no charges or citations had been filed.
Fire officials said two people inside the restaurant suffered minor injuries.
