CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) — Keenan Simmons scored 10 points and slammed home a dunk with four seconds left to assure Southern Illinois-Edwardsville of a 72-69 win over Southeast Missouri on Thursday night.
SIU-Edwardsville (6-20, 3-11 Ohio Valley Conference) has won two straight after dropping six in a row. Burak Eslik was 6 of 13 from the floor and made 9 of 10 free throws to lead the Cougars with 24 points. Carlos Anderson had 12 points and Jalen Henry chipped in nine.
SIU-Edwardsville, which was up 36-35 at the break, led 70-66 with 16 seconds remaining. Southeast Missouri’s Isiah Jones, who finished with 10 points, drilled a trey to close to 70-69. Simmons answered with a dunk and Jones missed a 3-point jumper as time expired.
Antonius Cleveland led the Redhawks (5-22, 2-12) with 24 points. Joel Angus III added 13.
The Cougars made 46 percent from the field, knocking down 9 of 22 treys.
