Here is a recap of tonight’s game from WGIL’s Brad Bennewitz:
“On a special night to wrap up the regular season at John Thiel Gymnasium, the end of the Silver Streaks Boys Basketball game was not so special, as the Streaks lost the home finale 49-41 to Rock Island, clinching only a share of the Western Big 6 Conference title as Moline lost to Quincy in overtime. So the Blue Devils and the Silver Streaks share the Western Big 6 Conference title. Galesburg had a good first half, lead Rock Island 27-20 going into the locker room. Coming out of the locker room the Streaks shooting touch vanished. Galesburg just 2/23 shooting the ball in the 2nd half and 1/14 from 3-point range as Rock Island’s defense took over in a 49-41 victory.
“CJ Neville lead the way for Rock Island with 22 points. The Streaks had 2 players in double figures, Ethan Meeker with 14, Jarret Olson with 10. Eric Thompson added 7 rebounds for the Streaks as well. But on a night when the Seniors were honored, gadettes, cheerleaders, and certainly basketball players on Senior night, and a night when the ’66 State Runner-up team was honored on the 50 year anniversary, the current Boys Basketball team just couldn’t get it done. They now head into regional play next week at 28-3. They’ll play Tuesday night against the winner of Monday night’s Canton and Macomb game.”
