Nona Kay Chasek, 68 of Galesburg and formerly of Abingdon, passed away Thursday morning, March 3, 2016 at her home.
She was born December 1, 1947 in Chadron, Nebraska, the daughter of Warren and Fairy Elizabeth Vasser Burk. She married Marvin Chasek on June 6, 1966 in Chadron.
Nona is survived by her husband of 49 years, Marvin; two sons, Randy Chasek of Mount Sterling and Corey (Kati) Chasek of Geneseo; 3 grandchildren and one on the way; one brother, Wayne (Claudia) Burk of Pasco, Washington; and one sister, Reta (Larry) Pahl of Kimball, Nebraska.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Nona grew up in Chadron, Nebraska and graduated from Chadron High School in 1966. She was a homemaker and loved taking care of her family, and especially enjoyed being “grandma” for the grandchildren. She and Marvin have lived in Alliance, Nebraska, the Quad Cities area of Iowa and they moved to Abingdon in 1983. They later lived in the Roseville area for five years and moved to Galesburg in 1992. She was a former member of the First Assembly of God in Abingdon. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, planting and caring for her flower gardens, playing card games with friends and she was a member of the North End Club while living in Abingdon. She was a good friend to many and in return she was blessed with many good friends.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 7, 2016 at First Assembly of God, 835 W. Martin St. in Abingdon. Rev. Russ Witkowski will officiate. Burial will be in the Knoxville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
