CHICAGO (AP) — Elected officials and community leaders in Illinois are remembering former first lady Nancy Reagan for her strength and her anti-drug advocacy work.
Reagan died at her home in Los Angeles on Sunday. She was 94.
Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner says in a Sunday statement that Reagan will be remembered for her “unwavering support” of the country and as a “pillar of strength” to her husband.
The Rev. Jesse Jackson says in a statement that Reagan led a “full and fruitful life.” He says he recalls meeting with her at the White House in 1986 and being “deeply impressed” by her determination with anti-drug efforts.
Illinois Republican Party Chairman Tim Schneider says Reagan represented “the best of America.”
