
Thomas D. “Tom” Anderson, 70 of rural Abingdon, passed away at 12:20 a.m. Sunday, March 6, 2016 at his home.
He was born April 24, 1945 in Berwick, the son of Clifford and Jane McMurtry Anderson. He married Rita Asher Taylor on June 8, 1973 in Berwick.
Tom is survived by his wife Rita; one brother, Jerry (Zelpha) Anderson of Galesburg; two sisters, Lois (Robert) Jones of Berwick and Joyce Skinner of Galesburg; one brother-in-law, Max Johnson of Abingdon; and several nieces, nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Cona Johnson and Betty (Glen) Burt, a stepson, Tony Taylor, a brother-in-law, Paul Skinner, a sister-in-law, Diane Johnson, and a niece, Melissa Johnson.
Tom lived in the Berwick and Abingdon areas all of his life. He graduated from Roseville High School in 1963. He served in the Army Reserves for three years. He worked at Admiral/Maytag for 30 years, retiring in 1994. He loved the outdoors. He was a fishing member of Lake Bracken Country Club. He also enjoyed hunting. Tom and Rita prided themselves in being able to share Tom’s love of the outdoors with their nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. What wonderful memories they made together.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2016 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the chapel.
